Bob,
I just saw this article (only 20 months after you wrote it) and nodded the whole way through. I think it’s the best article of yours I’ve ever read. To a large degree, architects can only be as good as they are allowed to be. The true mark of a great designer isn’t building a good course with millions of dollars and by moving thousands of tons of dirt, but building one that everyone can enjoy and which cost relatively little to build. That takes imagination and talent.

Vic, good point, however, this article was never intended to necessarily focus up on public access golf courses, simply the best ones (in my humble opinion). I have a book ready for publication, “Business Traveler’s Guide to Golf,” that reveals the best public access golf courses complete with contact information within one hour of the airport or center city of 122 metropolitan areas in the US. That said, I feel that some people just are curious about what some feel are the best courses (ie. Golf Digest’s, Golfweek’s or Golf Magazine’s Best ___ Lists.

So THAT’S what Sheep Ranch is!?! I was playing Old MacDoanald last month with a few people I met at the course and two of them started talking about hanging at Sheep Ranch the day before. I never thought about asking much about it since I thought they literally were hanging out at a ranch. Wow, how wrong could I be! Looks like I’m going to have to add this unique experience to my golf bucket list.

BTW – whom do I contact to get access to the “course”
